Finding the Signal in a world of Noise.

Hi, I'm Evan Sepa a GISP who's spent years building the most modern geospatial apps and actually pushing municipalities-small and large-to innovate through real, provable projects instead of just words.

Then AI showed up like a rogue asteroid and vaporized half my skill tree overnight. Suddenly the only things left that still felt uniquely mine were the handful of battle-tested instincts you can't prompt-engineer. For a hot minute I felt like a Level 99 mage who'd just watched his entire spellbook get nerfed.

But instead of rage-quitting, I teamed up with the AI. Now I'm back, same battle-hardened geospatial sorcerer, freshly empowered with the ultimate artifact weapon. The synergy is ridiculous, and the results are sharper, weirder, and way more fun than either of us could deliver alone.

So yeah... welcome to the new age of building. Same geospatial sorcerer, freshly enchanted, and still refusing to just talk about innovation, ask me, watch me, actually building it.

Timeline

closing in on 2 decades of mapping, modeling, and pushing the boundaries of what geospatial technology can achieve.

2014GISP CertificationChoosing experience over formal schooling, I worked towards and eventually earned the GISP certification, a respected credential requiring demonstrated contributions to the GIS field.
2010University of OttawaWhile working at North Frontenac, I undertook a GIS master's program and completed all coursework, but ultimately stepped away from the thesis when my interests shifted.

2025Planning Applications PlatformBuilding upon previous work Ajax now has some of the best processes and public and internal data resources anywhere.
2019Sepa-Rated SolutionsI started working side jobs because I could supply more then the demand is to innovate. Needing a solution? See sepa-rated.ca. Best results guaranteed.
2018Heritage BuildingsA straightforward map reference wiht nice processes for curators.
2017Planning Info Portal (PIP)Award winning ArcGIS Online app and Wiki-style info pages to make a robust resource.
2017Data OrangevilleBuilt a GIS website (app gallery, open data/code/experiences, project tracker). Again proving a web developer can provide superior solutions than a CMS.
2013Volunteer WorkArcGIS Online maps for The Historical Society of Ottawa and Rideau Canal Info.
2013Ontario / Toronto PlaquesA google fusion map with records from Alan Brown and his plaques database sites.
2013e-AgendasWith a single acrobat licence and training for the clerks, we saved days of photocopying and stacks of paper with organized e-agendas and minutes. First municipality to do so anywhere in the area.
2011NF Parklands MapAn arcgis online map with booking and availability links. Great usage and user feedback.
2010Online ElectionsI championed and supported North Frontenac online elections in 2010. It is mind boggling to me that most municipalities haven't got here still (decisions for the wrong reasons / motivations).
2010Municipal WebsiteUsing a template I hardcoded an entire municipal website and had unparalleled resources for years. Having website developers should be standard in municipal government, no CMSs!
2010Wall MapI created a very detailed high quality municipal wall map to sell to the public, which was important in an area with no cellular service at the time.

Core Capabilities

Deep technical skills, AI utilization, and soft skills that have made my presence and solutions top notch.

01

Spatial Analysis

Like regular data, but with X/Y coordinates! My academia was largely stats, data, and GIS (and economics).

02

Building Teams that Win

You can't just force people to change. Sometimes people want to change, others put up resistance of different degrees. For the sake of the win I connect with those who are ready.

03

AI is truely awesome

If you think it isn't, I know you probably formed your opinion from someone else's, or a social media post. We built this site in 10 mins, and 9 of them was me prompting o_0

04

Build for Minimal Maintenance

I take extra time and effort to build solutions that will not require regular maintenance and I can largely walk away from.

05

1-Up Em

I look for the best solutions I can possibly find, then try to duplicate them and even 1-up em. This includes evolving my own solutions again and again.

06

All Signal, No Noise

I largely stick to doing what make sense and has value. Often things are done for the wrong reasons, or the wrong motivations.

AI-Augmented. Infinitely Capable.

Here's the thing -- I leverage AI as a force multiplier. With AI on my team, the real answer to 'can you do that?' is always yes. If the technology exists, we'll figure it out together.

Ever faced a "we can't do that"... I can, just ask. Maybe I'll mock something for fun :P
